About Us

Founded in 1974 by a small group of women who saw the need for emergency shelter in the Pittsburgh area, Womanspace East, Inc. now has expanded it's program to include more long term services and support to homeless women.

In 1988, the agency created a bridge housing program where woman could be housed longer than the normal 30 - 60 day Emergency Shelter programs.  In 1990, the Board of Directors developed and expansion program to renovate a large three story brick structure to increase the capacity of the  emergency and bridge programs.  Another expansion project in 1999 created a 10 unit Transitional Housing Program at the Womanspace East, Inc. Site.  This program opened in January 2002.
